Rudi/Arnold: Tainted with the stink of the GOP

The much vaunted speech given Monday night by former NYC mayor Rudi Giuliani, contained some typical GOP slight of hand. Today's Washington Post dissects Rudi's less than honest picture of Kerry and offers context. In typical GOP/Bush Campaign fashion, Rudi took bits and pieces of statements or actions by Kerry and dishonestly represented them.

Another interesting Convention development are the GOP's reliance on Convention Jockeys. Convention Jockeys are a group of media-savvy staff members -- some with journalism backgrounds -- who are producing interviews and stories shown inside Madison Square Garden as part of the convention propaganda. Most outlets are refusing to air these segments. But CSpan and ABC have, declaring them as part of their complete Convention coverage. Other outlets are saying that the segments blur the line between journalism and politics (something that cable talk shows have done for years with apparently no pangs by the TV outlets).

Another extravaganza of Kerry hating rhetoric and GOP fluff ensued last evening. In an entertaining speech, Arnold declared himself a Republican inspired by the late Richard Nixon. Apparently coming to the US in 1968 and watching the complete corruption of the Nixon Administration inspired the young Austrian bodybuilder to do porn videos, grope women, do drugs, create some of the most violent films in history and register as a Republican.
